Owen Cotton-Barratt is a research fellow at the Future of Humanity Institute. He has a DPhil in pure mathematics. He previously worked as an academic mathematician and as Director of Research at the Centre for Effective Altruism.
He additionally worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, and holds a DPhil in mathematics from the University of Oxford. His research interests are centred on methodological questions about how to make comparisons between different actions, including a focus on understanding the long-term effects of actions today.
